Bit of a strange issue, but the spare key fob to my car is not working.

I have done the obvious and put in a fresh battery but that hasn't solved anything.

Any idea what could be causing the problem?

I have this style key

you have to program the beeper

Best bet is find someone to recode it for you. Failing that the circuit board is faulty.

In other words, a locksmith cos a decent one will have a MUT3 or similar and can program it to the ETACS box

Does the LED light up when you press a button and does the car start with the fob?

A locksmith most likely wont spend $2k on a mut-3. So it will be a trip to the dealer.

The lock.smith i used in North Qld did
I stood right next to them while they plugged it in and checked out the keys in the ETACS box, and added the new key
A decent lock smith with have the right tools to help you out

Nope nothing.

Looks like the key fob is U/S. A good locksmith should be able to help you with a replacement

Sounds like the actual fob, either it's dead or not getting power. I'd try the battery from the good remote first. If there's still no life then remove the cover again and press on the buttons for the guts of the remote to drop down. Separate the board from the black frame and check if the contacts from the battery have become loose and maybe bend them slightly for better contact and see how you go.

The LED is now working, but it still not locking/unlocking the car. Looks like its a trip to a locksmith or Mitsi for me.

does the car start with that fob?

Only Goto mitsy as a last resort
Don't be surprised if they charge you $600 to fix it
Avoid Mr Minute as they have limited key tools for the CJ or Evo X
