From its core source, yes you're right - but different brands' refineries do produce some differences.
But I 100% agree with what you said about fresh fuel - a station with a high turnover in customers is always good because you're guaranteed the freshest fuel.
Interesting 'fact' I was told by a friend in the fuel industry (don't quote me on this) 98RON fuel is actually transported at 101RON to allow for degradation in storage.

I use 91. Its the cheapest and I'm stingy. I've used the 95 before a few times and never noticed any difference. I've never put the 98 in my car. Been told there's no point unless it had a turbo or supercharger or had been heavily modified n tuned.
I usually go woolies/caltex cos I get discount and its close by. If Im desperate for fuel n can't be stuffed driving I fill up at the bp which is about 100m from my house.
